Lecture by Dr Jean Sciare, Director of the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC) of the Cyprus Institute. Title of his presentation: "Cyprus, at the crossroads of air pollution from 3 continents".

Air pollution remains one of the most sensitive environmental concerns in the world and in Europe, because of its harmful impacts on human health. Ambitious and efficient air emissions control strategies have been implemented over the 20 past years with some successful results we will review.
But a lot remains to be done to reduce human exposure to particulate matter, even European countries.

This presentation will describe the current situation, the mains drivers of particulate air pollution in Europe, typologies of episodes and what can be expected from future legislations and management strategies. Interlinkages with the global scale and future climate will be approached as well.
